Montalbano Jonico is one of the nine municipalities of the production area of the PGI Fragola della Basilicata, registered by Regulation (EU) 2025/2239 of 29 October 2025 and published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 5 November 2025. It is also one of the twelve municipalities of the PGI Peperone di Senise (Regulation (EC) No 1263/96).

The economy of the town is mainly agricultural, with olive oil, wine, citrus and fruit trees. The patron saint, Saint Maurice, is celebrated on 22 September. A page with products, seasons and a direct way to order or book a visit to the farm helps producers sell better.
